What does it take?

What does it take?

What does it take?

How much pain? How many killed? How much trauma – historical and current – do we ask people to absorb?

I had another post scheduled for today. But I just can’t go on as normal.

We just can’t keep going like this. Accepting excuses that make us feel better. And finding reasons to rationalize what isn’t rational.

People are being killed. Because they’re Black. Here in America.

Just like they always have.

But if white people like me expect that to end, it ends with us.

So no post about fundraising today. I’m sorry. And I’m not going to pretend to have some wisdom about this. I’m just angry – so angry. And sad and scared. All of it, mixed together.

Maybe you are, too?

So here are a few resources I’ve collected today.

There are so many more, and I really hope you will share them in the comments. I’ll tweet the hell out of them, I promise.

President Obama offers us some tangible action we can take now.

Sign the petition to reform policing.

Read and give some serious thought to this piece by a very thoughtful man.

The unbearable grief of Black mothers.

Wondering how to talk to kids about #BlackLivesMatter? Here’s how.

Bloomerang has a collection of resources about diversity in the nonprofit sector.

And if you are a person of color, they’d like to hear from you:

We have 119,353 blog subscribers and 12,880 social followers. That megaphone now belongs to #BIPOC working in the nonprofit sector. You have an open invite to write for our blog (PAID!) and elevate your voice. I have cleared our editorial calendar. 2/— Steven Shattuck (@StevenShattuck) June 1, 2020

EmbraceRace has a very useful resources page here.

And of course, my friend Vu Le has something meaningful to say about the work we have to do in the nonprofit sector. And there’s a lot of work we have to do. Read this to begin.

Finally, Kishshana Palmer shared this useful information:

#fundraisingtwitter and the #fabcrew worldwide…let’s get to work! 👇🏽
Amplify! Take action! Join something local. Tell that auntie/uncle or ya mama/daddy that says racist mess ENOUGH. Better yet, tell that Co-worker that is messy AF when it comes to black ppl…ENOUGH #youknow pic.twitter.com/W9js3hOFAc— Kishshana Palmer|Int’l Speaker🎤|Trainer to the 🌟 (@funddiva) May 31, 2020

I want to end with some great words of wisdom. But I don’t have them. And words don’t count much now, anyway. What is it we’re going to do?

What does it take?
